It is a fact that a lot of the travel destinations around today offer pretty much the same attractions as others elsewhere. What this means is that the potential traveler has to choose from among them which one will get their patronage. Prices and customer service are high on the list of criteria that will help in making that final determination.
big drawing card that is highly likely to influence which particular travel destination people lean towards is the element of uniqueness. Seeing something rarely seen, or doing things rarely done by others, is something that appeals to many a vacationer. With this in mind it is no wonder the idea of a trip to Chernobyl will resonate with many.
Without a doubt it can be said that a visit to Chernobyl offers a truly unique experience. How often after all is it, that one gets the opportunity to visit the site of what is widely believed to be the worst nuclear power plant accident ever? For those who are ignorant about the history of Chernobyl here is a synopsis. While a systems test was being conducted back in April of 1986 a sudden and unexpected power surge at reactor number four of the Chernobyl plant occurred.
The Chernobyl plant is situated near the city of Pripyat. When an emergency shutdown was initiated there was an exponentially larger spike in power output, and this led to a reactor vessel rupture and subsequent series of steam explosions. The graphite moderator of the reactor was exposed to air causing its ignition. Just under nine tons of radioactive material was released into the atmosphere and over an extensive geographical area, courtesy of the resulting fire. Large parts of Europe and the western Soviet Union were affected by the contaminant.
Because the Chernobyl tour is such a small-scale operation and only a limited number of individuals can visit Chernobyl and Pripyat on a daily basis, potential visitors are advised to make their travel arrangements well in advance. The tours are a strictly regulated operation and a formal application or booking request has to be submitted in advance. These are the dictates of what is known as the Zone Administration, the exclusive operators of the Chernobyl tours. One tour operator for the site advises that they operate every day of the year and that dosimeters are allowed. They also have no objection to the taking of pictures and video recordings during the trip.
The tour of the Chernobyl plant starts with the party leaving from Kyiv at 9:00 a.m. and returning there at 6:00 p.m. Some possible stops on the tour could involve places such as Kiev, Dytyatky, Leliyov, Opachychi, Rossokha, and of course Chernobyl. For those who may have concerns about the fare the Food is delivered from outside of the Chernobyl zone.
Travel destinations, and by extension tourist attractions, will possess features that are man made as well as some that occur naturally in nature. These include a theme park in the case of the former, and a rock formation or flora and fauna in the case of the latter. Chernobyl can be said to be unique in that it is man-made, but it was by no means intentional.
